Green Bay, WI (Sports Network) - The Green Bay Packers have signed defensive end Kenny Holmes.

Holmes spent the past three years with the New York Giants after playing his first four NFL seasons with the Tennessee Titans. He is coming off a 2003 campaign that ended in November because of a knee injury.

In 98 career games, Holmes has 38 1/2 sacks. He had 5 1/2 last year before the injury.

The former Houston Oilers originally selected Holmes out of Miami-Florida with the 18th overall pick of the 1997 draft just before the franchise moved to Tennessee. He helped the Titans reach the Super Bowl after the 1999 season.

The Packers opened a roster spot for Holmes by waiving punter Nathan Chapman, who averaged 38.0 yards on three punts in last Saturday's pre-season game against New Orleans.
