East Rutherford, NJ (Sports Network) - The New York Giants and Will Peterson have come to an agreement on a five-year contract extension that will keep the talented young cornerback with the club through the 2009 season.
Peterson, a three-year veteran out of Western Illinois, was in the final season of his original NFL contract.
The 25-year-old Peterson was a third-round pick in 2001 and moved into the starting lineup for the Giants late in his rookie season. He has played in 33 games (22 starts) and has 124 tackles, three interceptions and 15 passes defensed.
Peterson and fellow 2001 draft pick Will Allen are one of the NFL's best young cornerback tandems.
