Athens, GA (Sports Network) - University of Georgia junior linebacker Odell Thurman has been suspended for the first three games of the Bulldogs' season for violation of team rules.
"We have rules that must be adhered to by all members of our team," said head coach Mark Richt. "It's sometimes an unpleasant duty of a coach, but discipline is an important part of team unity and ultimately, team success. Hopefully, an important lesson is learned that will be of benefit in the future."
Thurman, who recorded 121 tackles last season as the team's starting middle linebacker, will miss games against Georgia Southern, South Carolina, and Marshall.
According to Richt, if he fulfills his responsibilities, he would be eligible to return for the Oct. 2 game against LSU.
