Pats ink veteran tackle Stubblefield
Foxboro, MA (Sports Network) - The Defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots shored up their defense Thursday by inking veteran Dana Stubblefield to a contract.
As per club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Stubblefield, who is entering his 12th NFL season, played last season for the Oakland Raiders. The 33-year-old has seen time with San Francisco and Washington, winning a Super Bowl ring with the 49ers in 1994.
Stubblefield, a one-time defensive player of the year, will most likely be used to fill the void Ted Washington left as a free agent last season.
In 149 career NFL games, Stubblefield has amassed 428 tackles and 53.5 sacks. He was selected to the Pro Bowl following the 1994, 1995 and 1997 campaigns and was named the league's defensive player of the year in 1997 after a career-best 15-sack performance.
