Moreno becomes permanent U.S. resident
Carson, CA (Sports Network) - The Los Angeles Galaxy announced on Wednesday that the U.S. has approved a green card for forward Alejandro Moreno.
Moreno's new status has freed up a Senior International roster spot for the Galaxy.
"This is great news for both Alejandro and for our club," said GM Doug Hamilton. "His green card status will provide greater flexibility to our club, it allows us to go out and sign a Senior International player should we decide to go in that direction."
"It's exciting for Alejandro. Not only is he now a permanent resident, but he also becomes a much more valuable asset for our team," said coach Sigi Schmid.
Moreno has been with Los Angeles since 2002 when he was selected by the team in the MLS SuperDraft out of UNC-Greensboro.
"Permanent resident status gives me and my family a sense of stability and security, not only in this country but with the club as well," said Moreno. "It's a long process that I am glad to have completed. In the end, I have achieved permanent residence and I'm pretty happy about it."
