McAlister in Ravens' camp, Deion next?

Baltimore, MD (Sports Network) - Baltimore Ravens cornerback Chris McAlister agreed to a one-year tender with the team on Monday, ending the All-Pro's month-long holdout.

McAlister was designated as the team's franchise player for the second consecutive season and will make $7.1 million this season -- the average salary of the top five players at his position.

The Ravens may soon be bolstering their secondary even further, as the club reportedly is close to signing future Hall-of-Famer Deion Sanders. The 37- year-old Sanders is arguably the best cover corner in NFL history but has not played since retiring from the Washington Redskins after the 2000 season.

"The signs are awfully optimistic right now, awfully optimistic," said Baltimore head coach Brian Billick on the team's chances of landing Sanders. "Check with me tomorrow, because it seems to change by the minute, but I think we're in pretty good shape."

McAlister earned his first Pro Bowl berth in 2003 after recording 43 tackles, 11 passes defensed, three interceptions and one touchdown for Baltimore, which was bounced from the first-round of last year's playoffs by the Tennessee Titans.

The Ravens' first round selection (10th overall) in the 1999 NFL Draft, McAlister has compiled 77 passes defensed, 14 interceptions and two touchdowns in five seasons.
