Jaguars' Cordova tears ACL; out for year
Jacksonville, FL (Sports Network) - Jacksonville Jaguars third-round draft pick Jorge Cordova tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and will be lost for the season.
Cordova, who was expected to come in right away and become a pass-rush specialist, suffered the injury during Wednesday afternoon's practice.
"We received some bad news this morning on the tests that were run on Jorge Cordova's knee," said Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio. "He suffered a season- ending ACL disruption, so they'll have to go in and repair that. So, he'll be placed on injured reserve. The thing I encouraged him to do, it's hard to do, but he has to try to keep his spirits up and just focus on working hard, getting in shape and working toward next year, and that's all he can do right now at this point."
Cordova, who had a stellar career at Nevada, posted 29 1/2 career sacks at the collegiate level and was counted on to play linebacker and defensive end before going down.
