Hurricanes Roundup 8/21/04

(hurricanesports.com) - The Miami football team held its third two-a-day practices of fall camp on Friday with two separate two-hour workouts on the Greentree Practice Fields.

"Today was a good day for us," Miami head coach Larry Coker said. "This was our second practice of the day, but the guys had a lot of fun. The team is a little tired and leg weary, but they should be. With the alternate two-a-day practices, they should get rested tomorrow and have a great afternoon practice. "

The morning practice consisted of two hours of work in shells under overcast skies and a threat of rain. UM came then out in full pads for the afternoon practice and worked for nearly two hours.

- Coker continued to praise the play of redshirt freshman tight end Greg Olsen. Olsen transferred from Notre Dame last September and figures to be the Hurricanes' second tight end behind senior Kevin Everett.

"He is a freshman, but he plays like he is an NFL rookie," Coker said. "He plays hard, and he's tough. We felt like Greg was the best tight end in America when he came out of high school, and we were very disappointed when we didn't sign him. To get him back has been a tremendous addition for us. We have had some standout players this fall, but without question, he is one of the best."

The Hurricanes are scheduled to practice once on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Saturday's workout, and all future practices, are closed to the public.

Miami opens the regular season on Monday night, Sept. 6 against Florida State in the Orange Bowl. For more ticket information visit www.hurricanesports.com or call 1-800-GO-CANES.
