Florida Marlins Team Report - August 4
(Sports Network) - The Florida Marlins continue a three-game series in Arizona this evening as they face the struggling Randy Johnson, who has gone winless (0-3) in his last five starts.
Reigning World Series MVP Josh Beckett is also struggling, like Johnson, going 0-3 in his last five starts and hasn't won since May 20 against Houston. The righthander has been on the disabled list three times this season. In his most recent outing, Beckett lasted only three-plus innings in a 9-0 defeat to Montreal last Friday. Beckett was lifted after allowing six hits and four runs.
Beckett has struggled in his career against Arizona, going 0-2 with a 5.94 ERA in three starts and has allowed a .333 batting average.
The Marlins continued to struggle, falling 5-3 last night. It was Florida's third straight defeat. The Marlins remained six games behind first-place Atlanta in the National League East.
New catcher Paul Lo Duca went 3-for-3 and drove in a run last night for the Marlins.
Mike Lowell is two RBI from becoming the first Marlin to post 500 in his career.
Florida won three of four games from the Diamondbacks May 21-24 at Pro Player Stadium. The Marlins are 7-2 in the last nine meetings. However, Arizona has won 10 of the last 12 at home versus Florida.
