Florida Marlins Team Report - August 14
(Sports Network) - The Marlins lost 6-4 to the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday night at Miller Park.
Ismael Valdez (10-7) took the loss as he made his second start in a Florida uniform. Valdez threw six scoreless innings in his Marlins debut last Saturday against the Brewers, but was not as effective in this one. The righty yielded five runs -- four earned -- and eight hits over 5 1/3 frames while walking three and fanning one in Friday's game.
Damion Easley had two RBI and Alex Gonzalez hit a solo homer for the Marlins, who have dropped four of their last five games.
The Marlins, who are in the midst of a three-city road trip, are 25-31 on the road this season.
Florida will have 22-year-old lefthander Dontrelle Willis on the hill tonight. Willis has dropped three of his last four starts, including a tough luck defeat to Milwaukee last Sunday. The southpaw allowed seven hits and two runs over 7 1/3 innings in the game, while fanning 10 and walking two.
Willis has registered a 1-1 mark with a 3.21 ERA versus the Brewers in his career.
Florida won two of three from Milwaukee at Pro Player Stadium last weekend. The Marlins are 17-8 against the Brewers since the start of the 2001 season, including an 8-5 mark at Miller Park.
