Fitzgerald plays Cards right, gets big deal

Tempe, AZ (Sports Network) - The Arizona Cardinals and rookie wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald have agreed to terms on a six-year contract. As per team policy, financial terms were not disclosed.

Fitzgerald, arguably the best college wideout last season, was selected third overall in April's NFL Draft. The former Pittsburgh star, who was runner-up for the Heisman Trophy, is expected to report to training camp on Monday.

He captured the Biletnikoff Award as the nation's top receiver and the Walter Camp Award as player of the year. The talented wideout caught 87 passes with a nation best 1,595 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns for the Panthers.

Fitzgerald had a touchdown reception in all 12 games last year as a sophomore to tie Randy Moss' single-season record. In a 23-16 loss to Virginia in the second-ever Continental Tire Bowl on December 27, Fitzgerald saw his NCAA-record streak of 18 straight games with a TD catch come to an end.

In 26 career games at Pittsburgh, Fitzgerald recorded 161 catches for 2,677 yards and a school-record 34 touchdowns. Arizona now has three talented wide receivers in Fitzgerald, Anquan Boldin and Bryant Johnson.

Arizona has two unsigned draft picks left in defensive tackle Darnell Dockett and linebacker Karlos Dansby.
