Eagles' Dawkins injures knee
Bethlehem, PA (Sports Network) - Philadelphia Eagles All-Pro safety Brian Dawkins suffered a hyperextended knee during Wednesday morning's practice.
Dawkins was participating in training camp at Lehigh University for the first time in three days after experiencing groin spasms. He went down with the knee injury on a sideline play.
The Clemson product underwent an MRI which revealed the magnitude of the setback. Dawkins is expected to be sidelined for about a week.
According to Eagles head coach Andy Reid, the injury was a "freak play."
Dawkins, a three-time Pro Bowl selection, battled injuries throughout the 2003 season and played in just seven games. He finished with 35 tackles and one interception.
In 110 games (109 starts) Dawkins has recorded 553 tackles, including 444 solo, 96 passes defensed and 21 interceptions. The 30-year-old veteran will be replaced by Clinton Hart on the first team. Hart started nine games in place of Dawkins last season.
