Dolphins lose another offensive weapon in Boston

Miami, FL (Sports Network) - Miami Dolphins wide receiver David Boston will likely miss the entire NFL season after suffering a left knee injury during practice Friday.

The announcement was made Friday by head coach Dave Wannstedt, who is already seeking answers after getting the news that running back Ricky Williams announced his retirement.

"It is anticipated that the injury will require surgery that will sideline him for the season," Wannstedt said in a statement late Friday. "Further details of his condition will be available following the conclusion of the surgery."

Boston was running a pass route and his knee appeared to buckle after he planted his foot. No contact was made during the play. Earlier in the day, Wannstedt was praising Boston for being in the best shape of his career.

The news comes just one day after the team announced that wide receiver Chris Chambers agreed to a five-year contract extension.

The five-year veteran from Ohio State played his first four NFL seasons in Arizona and posted consecutive 1,000-yard seasons in 2000 and '01, when he reached his only Pro Bowl after catching 98 balls for 1,598 yards and eight touchdowns.

Boston spent the 2003 campaign with San Diego where he had 70 receptions for 880 yards with seven touchdowns.
